M. Night Shyamalan (April Fools)

In a shockingly quiet press release yesterday, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, revealed that the director of the series finale would be none other than acclaimed director M. Night Shymalan. The content of the finale still remains a secret, but Lindelof and Cuse stated that they wished to "get a hold" on the most important episode of next year, to make sure that everything goes "without a hitch."

Shyamalan, director of such films as The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Lady in the Water says that he is more than up for the challenge, and will begin working with the producers as soon as his newest film, The Last Airbender, completes production. It is also rumoured that Shymalan's newfound experience with 3D (after working on Airbender) will be involved.

Shyamalan, an avid ''Lost'' fan, said that he was already working with Damon and Carlton on an early draft of the episode.

I have mixed feelings about this. We could end up with something Sixth Sense-ish, or something like Lady in the Water. Only time will tell, and hopefully it mainly remains in Darlton's hands.

UPDATE: It's an April Fools joke. Don't worry, the finale is in safe hands. :)

Just wondering, does this have anything to do with today being April 1?

Even though this is most definitely an april fools joke, it would be awesome. M. Night has a great directing style that will jell perfectly with Lost. Say what you will about his writing, there's no question in ability to direct a movie

for all intents and purposes, this was a great april fools joke. had this been an actual reveal, i would've immediately discontinued watching lost - that is, after the second to last episode of the series :p

Its clear that PKD's work will inspire the last episode, nice work that they chose a man who is no fool when it comes to plot twists, even if this turns out to be an april fool's day joke its still a clue to the level in which the plot twist with the level of confusion of a M. Night Shyamalan movie (Which is brilliant).

if there is a god, i thank him that this is not true.

Even Wikipedia says it, ergo it must be true.

oh god is this really true?

Wow, this almost got me.

Of course it's April Fool's. But it would be awful, as he would have to insert himself somewhere into the story, give himself some speaking lines, and look totally out of place and screw up whatever he's directing. Ya know, just like he always does. :p

If only this was true...Well done guys!

Although I love M. Night, did anyone actually SEE "The Happening"? I kind of wish I could get those 91 minutes back...that's all I'm saying. BTW, this is hilarious. Happy April Fools!

You totally had me. Good job! At least I thought about it harder before sending this link off to my husband.

Anyone who thinks M Night is a good director also needs a kick in the face.

Why are people acting like this would've been a bad thing? He's a great director and storyteller!

PLEASE be an April Fool's joke! I can't believe that studios still hire this guy. I mean, have you SEEN "The Happening'?! I only stayed to watch the whole damn thing and waste two hours of my life because I was there with my nephew on his birthday. It's too bad, because I liked "Signs" and "The Village" but this guy is WAAAY overrated. As was "The Sixth Sense."

I am so relieved that today is April Fools' Day... My heart stopped beating for a second when i read this "news". The best Televison Show on earth and the worst Director of the planet just don't ad up.

Before I had a heart attack I had to check the date it was posted. LOL. Good one!!!!

I probably would have believed this if I hadn't just been through about three other april fools day jokes from Damon Lindelof quitting the show, season six being postponed a year and Terry O Quinn dying (which is actually quite sick and not funny. I worry for that person's sanity.)

I hate reading internet news on April 1st! I was actually excited for a second.

I heard from a reliable source that Dane Cook will be playing the role of alternate-reality Jack, and that Ashley Simpson will fill in for alternate-reality Kate.

Someone actually said Terry O'Quinn died?? OMG! That's not even funny!

On a serious note, I would welcome M. Night directing an episode of Lost (though probably not a finale). His writing isn't his strongest asset but Shyamalan directing a Darlton script could make for an awesome episode. After all, for every "Happening", he has has an "Unbreakable".

This is April Fools, right?

good joke
I almost believed it until I read the line where it mentioned 3D stuff...

If it were true, I wouldn't really view it as bad. M. Night is not a bad director, he's just a bad writer. And since Damon and Carlton would be writing the finale, not him, I don't see the problem.

BTW, it would be kinda unfair to Jack bender if M. Night did the finale. Usually, the "main" series director does it.

Even though this is a joke, I think some of the negative reaction, were this true, would be a bit much. M. Night is not a bad director by any means. He's a bad WRITER. Big difference! Anyone directing an episode of Lost is ultimately a puppet of Darlton's vision/script, so I doubt he'd be able to do any damage.

OMFG
Please let this be a joke.
That guy made one good movie and after that only crap.
He would totally ruin the finale, no matter how good the script is.

GJD3484 said...

It's obviously a joke, they would never leave the the most anticipated part of this show up to someone who has had nothing what so ever to do with the show's conclusion.....or would they ;)

thats rediculous if i was one of the main directors of lost i would be pissed...im not a director for lost and im extremely pissed. there still is a chance that its not true though. 3d experience wtf? i got 3d experience too its called life!!!

OMG M. Night Shyamalan is JACOB!!

And why the hell theyre always giving most important pictures to his hands!!!! i mean Avatar The Last Airbender!!! i still believe its a joke! i wanna believe its a stupid joke! Avatar is the best cartoon animation picture of last times. and its in the hands of a stupid director! (sorry night, but i dont love your movies! maybe ure a good man but... damn! your movies??)

lol you people are just evil, his movies have only really sucked since after Signs. directing he would be fine cause its nothing HE wrote....dont get me wrong im glad he isnt involved and this was a joke but his movies are always shot well, just the content he puts in them has been horrible lately, as bad as The Happening was it wasnt the direction, it was the story....killer trees....HAHA

I think that was the best joke being April Fools. Even though it is stated next to the title of the news as April Fools, I had been alarmed first. The name uttered, Shmyalan, whatever the correct spelling is, for the finale was so horrible that I kept reading the whole story my hair stand on. That man, Shmyalan, is responsible for the dumbness of a whole generation because of that sixth sense crap, in my opinion. I can't imagine how he would screw up the finale, such a talent he is! Well, after all, the island would not allow him to get the job, yes, no way :)
