ARG Comic Con Update

Octagon Global Recruiting today announced their official confirmation concerning Comic Con 2008. They will be conducting eligibility assessments at Booth 3529 at Comic Con, San Diego, between July 24th-27th. See the full message here, or just read our key point summary below:

If you signed up to their newsletter, you can also enter a draw to win 1 of 10 "pre-release appointments" with their reps at Comic Con. For those going, or for those who just wanna sign up anyway (you never know what could happen in an ARG), you can use this link - note that you will need to edit the URL, after where it says register=PUT_YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS_HERE

Anything else to report other than this info for Comic Con visitors? Well, for starters we got an insight into this mysterious Hans Van Eeghen - we now know he's DHARMA's Head of Recruiting, and that his "colleagues" are OGR - so a bit of clarification there for us. Also tells us they're at Comic Con because they think it will have some of the brightest minds around in attendance for their what appears to be aptitude eligibility tests.

Furthermore, the email mentions that those who don't attend Comic Con can go online at dharmawantsyou.com from July 28th for a limited time - nice they consider those outside the area and indeed international! Nothing yet on clues from this site, just a little "coming soon" banner.

Finally, the email OGR sent out, if you visit the webpage version of it and then view the source code, there's an interesting message from someone by the name of RuckusGuy

…If you’re reading this, wanna hear something cool?
I’ve got intel about his little “recruitment drive.”
They’re doing some kind’ve personality/IQ testing or something down in SD for ComicCon.
Buddy of mine works down there and has the approvals for their “booth,” he says once you go in no one knows what happens inside and you need an appointment to get in. He also said to make sure you’ve got your Bluetooth on and visible – he’s rigged up a little something.

The whole thing sounds like elitist B.S., doesn’t it?
Well, I’m getting in that booth and taking the test.
As many times as I have to before I “pass” (whatever that means?)
And then…
If I can?
I’m gonna tape it so EVERYONE can see what these idiots are up to.
Should be fun, right?
See ya in SD. RuckusGuy OUT.

Interesting stuff! A new Rachel Blake who's apparently male and not averse to bad language! Comic Con visitors - have your bluetooth thingys on!

I'm gonna be there. I've signed up, but alas, I don't have a Bluetooth thingy

I'm not going to San Diego, but I'm still tempted to sign up anyway... is anyone else going to do the same?

Mate, I'm in the UK and I signed up! You never know what special newsletters you might get, etc.

Hey, I've got a question. He's referring to Bluetooth headsets for cell phones, right? So does that mean they'll have some way to broadcast something to the Bluetooth headset without actually calling you?

Note from the post I call them bluetooth thingys lol, so I'm no authority, but I think if you set your bluetooth on then people can send you messages or even audios/videos if you have the technology. Some people though lock their bluetooth or turn it off as randomers on the street can send you all sorts of strange videos and photos.

@Nickb: I think what you mean is calles bluejacking: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluejacking

Another reasing why people secure their bluetooth it because people can hack your phone or something by bluetooth.

At least, that's what I saw on television. I don't exactly know how that works.

Anyway, I'm SO looking forward at the whole ARG right now. Too bad that I live in Europe... But still, a DHARMA ARG, how much better can it become??

I hope they will refer to some characters from the first ARG, like Thomas Werner Mittelwerk (evil name, I know ;)).

Anyone else notice on the dharmawantsyou site that there is a slight pattern in the image itself? It's just a few almost black pixels, above and to the left of the text. It looks like a constellation or something, but I don't really know. I downloaded it to my computer (to make sure it wasnt my monitor) and played with it in photoshop, but I got nothing.

Or maybe I'm just crazy...anyone else see it?

lisa - see http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Talk:Dharmawantsyou.com

I noticed it too! Except I'm going with butterfly. I would have mentioned it with the blog, but I wasn't sure of its relevance.

Also note that the number of dots in this "constellation" is 8...unless I'm not seeing more. But then again, why wouldn't it be 8? ;)

I counted 16 dots.

I think its pretty clear now what's going on. They're making an octagon slowly but surely (probably every day until Comic Con) - a DHARMA logo.

Yes Nickb123, I think you are right...if you look at the image name, it was 1.jpg yesterday and now it is 2.jpg...probably going to fill it into something as time goes by.

Darn, I thought I had noticed something ARG worthy ;)

hey!, i'm from Chile, and i'm waiting... what's going on!

i need to know!

i already signed, even i'm very far away =(

anyways...
i'm college student, so, i can't go

the dots in the dharmawantsyou, when you see the picture you see that is called "2.jpg", if u use 1.jpg, appears the same image with less dots.... so, when the date comes, it will appear the octagon?

By "Bluetooth Thingy" they just mean to turn on the Bluetooth on your phone and make sure it is set to "visible." Doing so is relatively safe; you'll have to approve/confirm any incoming message.

Just be smart/safe about it in the event some clever hacker at comicon decides to name his bluetooth device "Dharma" and send a virus. But generally speaking, this sounds pretty cool and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Today the shape made of dots on the dharmawantsyou page definitely looks like the top edges of an octagon - so I guess it's going to reveal a new Dharma logo for the recruits!

And now there are 24 dots - I thought it was going to be 23 (following on from 8 and 16), but it's definitely 24!

Wish I could go to comic con, but I'm stuck in London so will have to wait and see what happens online.

now we have 62 spots on the dharmawantsyou website, but you can't do anything there yet. They're clearly drawing a dharma logo. assuming it's gonna be symetric, there are still 8 spots left on the right side, and 6 on the left side.
