Lost Mysteries

And suddenly even more developments occurring before Comic-Con has even started (I warned you this would happen!) - not only do we have Lost University and some mysterious guy up on his Latin, but ABC have also launched http://www.abc.com/lostmysteries

From what we can see here, a series of 80's documentary videos full of crackpot theories will be posted over the coming weeks. The first video just gives a bit of history of secret societies like the Freemasons, but then discusses the DHARMA Initiative briefly. The video description says:
"A project discussed for years in and around conspiracy circles. Once thought to be lost, this explosive documentary series has never been seen before...until now."

Looks like over the weeks there'll be further videos on differing topics, perhaps not just DHARMA. Also checked out DarkUFO's blog, and a user there is reporting there that there was an advert in Entertainment Weekly for KIA that stated the videos would be released: 7/23/09, 8/4/09, 9/8/09, 10/15/09 and 11/16/09. She suggests that all the vids will be on DHARMA, but I'm not so sure having watched the video... perhaps the spread in the magazine sheds more light (if anyone can get a scanned copy of that, that'd be amazing). As a final thought, it seems like KIA is also sponsoring the webpage for the Mysteries show. This has got me mildly excited as it seems like specific sponsorship... not heard of since the days of The Lost Experience. If this is the case, we might be getting an intricate ARG with the availability of funds from sponsorship!

  1. Does this suggest that we are going to see aliens in Lost? That would be disappointing :\

  2. Doubt it, I think the show will focus on varying issues like conspiracy, aliens, paranormal... all with light ties and conjecture relating to LOST... but nothing more than interesting fun.

Same with Lost University probably, little in the way of narrative advancement - just a bit of fun.

  4. It looks as if the aliens and supernatural phenomona are an indication of what the topics of the fictional show would typically be and that the Dharma Initiative is the subject of this particular broadcast.

I have to disagree with the author of this post though. The video does, in fact, suggest that it is just the opening of a show dedicated to the Dharma Initiative and that we, the viewers, have only seen one short clip.

  5. AngriBuddhist - Perhaps so, but the nature of the website seemed to just highlight that particular episode as on "The DHARMA Initiative". I am most prepared to be proved wrong, but with the indication of ancient cultures etc at the end of the video, it made me think that subsequent episodes in a show called "Mysteries of the Universe" will not all focus on one group.

I guess we'll just have to see what the August video has in store!

4:13 First, you see Jacob weaving. Everyone at the SWAN station had handguns when Juliette detonated the bomb, over the energy source. We have learned that when the Losties time travel, anything that is on them goes with them. Jack, etc. had handguns while in the middle of a shootout with the Dharma Initiative. Like the compass, items travel through time.
The tapestry, clearly in the past, shows an ancient event.. We know that Jacob is timeless. Therefore, he is depicting what happened on the tapestry, and it is clear that two of the figures are not dancing. They are pointing, what could be guns, at the other figures that might be dancing, but for those two. That's what the writers want you to think. Time travel

  7. I agree with AngriBuddhist. The clip posted is obviously the intro to a show all about Dharma and it looks to me like subsequent parts will be the rest of this dharma centric episode. I think the site is simply trying to add realism to the show by claiming that its part of a series covering other mysteries in other episodes. None of which we will actually see.

  8. Why there is an UFO picture with all those Dharma documents?... I only hope that Lost is not about aliens because I will be very dissappointed and I will think I lost 6 years of my life watching a show about aliens.

  9. A line in the video reminds me of Jack's tattoo: He walks among us, but is not one of us.

  11. Guys a quick Comic Con update - when asked at about whether there would be further revelations about the [[DHARMA Initiative]], the writers said there would not really be too many, but Damon Lindelof added, "expect on the DVD with the Mysteries Of The Universe thing, I think that there will be some new revelations about the DHARMA Initiative..."

So this suggests like some of you speculated: all the clips will be DHARMA-related (whether from the same ep or different ones as clips), and the whole feature will probably also be on the Season 5 DVDs.

  12. I didn't get "aliens will be in LOST" from that...

The video is about secret societies and clandestine organizations, not aliens

  13. Has anyone seen the recent LOSTARGS.COM post.

One of the images in the mysteries video is of an invoice from what appears to be the WAKY radio station.

On the 79WAKY.com there is a photo page with an old DJ called John Locke and on anotehr photo page there is a promotional card that says "Wierd Beard is our leader", this ties in with the possible translation of the heiroglyphs

  14. Origin of the title of these clips, from the "Dead is Dead" episode in Season 5:

BEN: May I ask you a question, John?

    LOCKE: Shoot.

BEN: How is it that you know where you're going?

    LOCKE: I just know.

BEN: I mean, how does that work, exactly?

    LOCKE: How does what work?

BEN: The knowing. I mean, did it come upon you gradually, or did you wake up one morning suddenly understanding the mysteries of the universe?
