Lost University - New ARG and Blu-Ray supplement

ABC.com have launched a new website "Lost University" at Comic-Con. Coming soon to Blu-Ray Hi-Def, Lost University seems to be a new ARG and supplementary Blu-Ray disc on the mystery and themes of Lost, allowing you to dig into more information about the show's background.

You can sign up now to get an email closer to when enrolement starts (22nd September 2009 - 5 years to the day since the show first aired, and Flight 815 crashed). The University course seems to be split into two semesters with courses beginning December 8th 2009 (The US launch date of the fifth season Blu-Ray DVDs). The courses include His 101: Writing on the Wall, Art 101 : Seminar - Inspiration and Expression with Jack Bender, Phi 101 : I'm Lost Therefore I Am and Phy 101 : Introductory Physics of Time Travel.

Take a look at the introduction video:

There will be apparently lots of content on the website, which will be further supported by the Blu-Ray box set and iPhone applications to download. You can also buy LU merchandise like hoodies, t-shirts and baseball caps from the ABC website. Visiting the website now will give you a good overview of what to expect from LU when it begins.

It looks like an interesting take on getting further into the background of Lost.

So an ARG and a Blu-Ray disc in the fifth season DVD box-set to accompany it seem to be on the way! Look out for more information coming at Comic-Con, no doubt.

  1. Does anyone know if it's possible to "join" the lost university thing outside US (in Sweden)? And do you have too own the blu-ray editions of season 5 to become a member, or what? I didn't understand it all... :S

  2. AW8, go to http://www.lostuniversity.org and look just to the right of the video. You can select your country (Sweden is listed) and begin applying for the "University" ARG.

  3. I think you can because it asks for the country you live in when you sign up. Try it,you gat nothing to lose.

  4. I hope we don't have to own the blu-ray edition or, if we do, I hope there are nice "classmates" who can help those of us who don't have a blu-ray player. :-)

  5. Looks like you have to buy the bluray season 5 set which will have an id number or something to complete your LU signup. Not available for us here in NZ though for some reason - figures.

  6. So far all I've seen are obvious references to the show (Drive Shaft, Hume Amphitheatre, etc) as well as a hidden reference (Epsilon Kappa Omega = EKO). Anyone else seeing anything?

  7. Towards the end of the video played on the homepage you can see a shot of a beach with an airplane's wheel behind the Lost University logo. It is probably a shot from The Pilot or sometime when the plane first crashed. It is played in what looks like a theater.

  8. Wonder how this will tie into the final season. Last year they had you take Dharma aptitude tests, to see where you'd be assigned, which was obviously revealed to be a reference to the regulars joining the initiative.. Could be nothing, but I wonder.

  9. Interesting ARG. My guess for the connection to Season 6 is that we will be learning more about the origin of the DI in Ann Arbor.

  10. The DeGroots were in the study group in the video.

  11. Interesting that this ARG appears to have nothing to do with the organizations in the show. (Project=DHARMA, TLE=Hanso, etc.)

  12. Um, question. You don't have to actually be 18 to do this right? You just have to say you're 18 so you can get the email updates, and you'll actually enroll on the 22nd, right?

  13. Good catch on the relationship between Lost University and the DeGroots and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. As I just rewatched all the episodes through Season 2, I'm still interested in the purpose of the DI.

However, I hope the show goes back further in time, to whatever ancient origins Jacob has.

Finally, I think it sucks monkey nuts that you have to by the blu-ray edition of Season 5 to play. I hope there is online content that everyone else can access. I would hate to think that they would use an ARG as a way to get you to buy all kinds of Lost merchandise.

  14. Austin - weirdly looks like you'll have to be 18 for the whole thing. I know they want to keep up verisimilitude for a University, but seems dumb to cut out the under 18 demographic. Just lie to them dude!

Sounds like a Lost Uni segment will be on the S5 Blu-Ray DVDs as a featurette... hope it doesn't give major clues in that, forcing us to buy the boxset... that would be a cheap shot really.

  15. This sounds more like a bit of fun more than an ARG.

With some of the courses based around principles in time travel and Hieroglyphics, it seems that it will end up filling in the gaps of some of the mythology that won't get fully answered but will be prominent.

Also the history behind the philosophical names will be explained, so this gives more validity to the idea that it will fill in gaps, as in some ways what these philosophers did in real life has had echo's in the show.

  16. I'm def gonna get my dad to do all the stuff to prove to be 18. but otherwise, I'll be naviagting it. and the 5th season blu ray dvd thing better be not a nessisty. I already have 4 seasons on regular, im not shelling out to get one on blu-ray. Why can't they just put this on the regular dvd too? It's sorta annoying

  17. I don't actually see anything that says that you will HAVE to buy the Blue Ray, but admittedly I didn't look that close. Does it actually say that somewhere?

  18. Okay, I was thinking about the whole University thing today and I was wondering if the DeGroots will play a role in the final season. Could they be the "they" that Jacob talks about when he says, "They're coming?" Very doubtful, but it makes me wonder. After all, Jacob talks about "progress" and that's what the Dharma Initiative was supposed to be about.

  19. If 'not owning any of the blurays, not residing in any of the countries given there and not truly being aged 18 or more' doesn't stop me,I'll surely want to participate.

  20. Um... where is the writer of this article getting the info about a "supplementary blu-ray disc"? The write-up on lostuniversity only mentions buying the Season 5 Blu-Ray set.

  21. I'm from Belgium and it's not listed. :-(

  22. I'm right there with ya, Csg12. Pretty irritating "prerequisites", if you get the pun. I'm 16, Australian, and too cheap to buy a Blu-Ray player.

  23. Anybody else notice that the list of classes on the promo had Perception of Time mis-spelled as Preception of Time? Reference to Desmond maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  24. NO i didn't!! good catch, preception of time.... what does that mean exactly??
btw, theres nothing we can do now, right?? like im not missing out on choosing...like dorms or anything...?

    ReplyDelete
  25. btw anyone see the dharma special on ABC.com?? was it implying that Jacob was an alian??
i wanna know who that old guy was in the newspaper clipping...

  26. With all due respect, i was waiting a real ARG, since it would be the last one..., one as good as Lost Experiencie :S

    I hope they surprise us

  27. hi...
i'm from Tunisia and i was glad that my country is involved in the world of "lost". but i'm frustrated that it dosen't exist in the list of countries in the signin column!!
hope that we can be students of UL without having to own the Bluray discs!!
    NAMASTE from TUNISIA !!!!

  28. Thats not fair. Australia is on the drop down list, but its not "available in my area", but i can get a student id with the blue-ray disc. i clicked on sweden (curtusy of the early post) and its fine. that really sux why even have it in the list. besides, seeing as one of our tv stations have helped work on previous args (find 815) it really is a let down. not happy!

  29. Okay, so I signed up for this as soon as I found it a few days ago (thank you ONTD). I don't think they would make the Blu-Ray thing a necessity...when I signed up - I can't remember exactly what it said BUT - it didn't stop me from signing up for the email notification. I think when enrolment begins maybe Student IDs will be issued after the aptitude test that is mentioned?

Even so, if all systems are go when the time comes, I'm going to be all up in LU's grill.

  30. I really hope the blue ray thing is not required because I don't have a blue ray player. But I'm actually really interested in learning more about the physics of time travel and even basic survival skills. I'll definitely start reading some of those books before class starts in December. And of course we should all take the Jeremy Davies seminar!

  31. Nicaragua is not listed. That's so unfair! I will have to lie when I sign up and my country will not be part of the game even if we are playing :( I also hope we don't have to buy anything. All fans should be allowed to enter.
