Season 5 premiere date announced

The official countdown can now begin.

ABC has announced that Lost will return Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 8/7c.

ABC will have three hours of Lost action that night, with a recap show at 8pm, followed by 5x01 and 5x02 from 9-11pm.

This is a small satisfaction for those of us with hiatus fever, but just think, in 73 days it'll be over!

Happy Lost Day! Win a copy of Bad Twin!

Note: The competition is now CLOSED.

Well the day has finally arrived, its September 22nd, the day Oceanic Flight 815 crashed onto the Island and the day the world brought us Lost. Its been four years now, and for Lostpedia it also marks our third year anniversary. Yes, on September 22nd 2005, Lostpedia launched, and since then we have grown to become one of the world's great wikis, of course building and expanding to include a thriving Forum, a charming chatroom, and an often when I'm at the helm bombastic blog.

Thought it might be nice to do what we did last year and reflect on how far we've come, check out comparisons between the Jack article (one of the first on Lostpedia) before and after:

September 22nd 2005
September 22nd, 2006
September 22nd, 2007
September 22nd, 2008

To celebrate the day though, I've decided to run a second Lostpedia competition, after the success of the first one where I gave away a copy of Lost: Via Domus (the winner has since received his goods, and is probably playing it as I type!). This time we have up for grabs a copy of "Bad Twin" by Gary Troup, who coincidentally died on September 22nd after the crash. As with the last contest, winning entries go into a hat and the one I pick out of said hat gets the prize, which I will send anywhere in the world for you (speed of delivery depends just how far I have to send it!). Again, legal mumbo jumbo about how I can't be held responsible should it get lost, yada yada, all rights reserved and all that, I keep your email details/personal info safe, blah de blah - you agree you won't sue me for some unforeseen reason, etc etc.

How do you enter? Well, all you need to do is listen to the audio below (aptly 1:08 in length as a matter of fact), and figure out what the message is. Its actually the answer to a question - if you can figure it out, tap it to nickb123ATlostpediaDOTcom along with your public username and what country you're from. Please also explain how you got the answer in the response, pot luck correct replies won't be counted. The last contest I did, I got LOTS of responses, so please do not be offended if I don't reply to any/all of them to notify you that you're wrong and should try again. I will offer some help and hints when needed, either by email or in the blog comments section. You have until Monday 29th to send entries. Good luck!!!

*A big thanks to Congested for helping me record, upload and embed this audio. I've switched to eSnips though after I exceeded bandwidth for Congested's site. If you have audio problems, try a direct link to the audio here. If there's still a problem, contact me and I will email you the mp3 file.

Win a copy of Lost: Via Domus

Note: The competition is now closed!

A little bored with Lost not being on your screens? Want something other than the ARG to satisfy your Lost addiction? Well, why not play Lost: Via Domus - the official Lost game! Explore the Island as Elliott Maslow, a survivor suffering from memory loss after the crash of Oceanic Flight 815. Along the way, interact with all your favorite characters, including the Others. Uncover your past, and try and figure out how to get home!

We're offering one user a free copy of Lost: Via Domus for PC. Note you'll need a relatively new computer to run the game (check all the tech requirements here). As for legal mumbo jumbo - the winner will get a copy sent to them anywhere in the world, but whether I do priority mail or normal mail will depend how much it costs :) I also can't be held responsible if the prize suddenly gets lost itself in transit. All rights reserved, you agree that upon entering you relinquish rights to sue, I will protect any personal info given to me, yada yada, blah de blah.

Anyway if you would like to enter the competition, read the riddle below and tell me which Lost character I'm talking about. It should be relatively easy, but if you have trouble, I'm sure you'll be able to get some help in the Forum, IRC Chat or in the blog comments section. The competition will close on the 28th (a week from today) at midnight BST time. To enter, email the answer to nickb123ATlostpediaDOTcom, along with your online name, email address in the message (I know it says at the top, but it just makes it easier for me) and a rough idea of where you are (e.g. Spain). I won't be replying to messages to tell you you're right, but I think when you have the answer, you'll know its correct. I'll announce the winner next Friday. Good luck! Here's the riddle:

You'll find me in the middle of the night, but also just as the dawn ends
Curious, isn't it, that I appear during both, twice, though I guess it really all kind of depends
Because, to be honest with you, I am actually a little bit two-faced, I lie
Though on the surface of things, I'm sure you think I'm a nice normal guy
Deceitful is my middle name though, my last being pure success
I work in silence, survey you closely, and take glee in your distress
You honestly have no idea, that I am always in decided watch
The skill in my trickery, I'm sure you'd agree, is certainly quite top-notch!
Really all you need now is one more clue, a mark, a symbol, a sign
Figure out who I am, quickly now, before that prize of yours is mine
Don't worry, it'll be fine.

Summer blues? Lostpedia has the answers

Talk about a slow few weeks, huh. No Lost to speak of. But what have we been doing at Lostpedia? Well there's a few new things going on. First off, there's the episode rewatch scheme. At this moment in time we're on Solitary and Raised By Another, the basic idea being watch em again years on and appreciate em, chat about them on Lostpedia forum, and maybe update the corresponding episode articles on the wiki. Bound to give you your Lost fix through the dry season.

Next up is Lostpedia's fan fic Season 4, taking place on the forums. I've read some of the material being produced, and its really great, also the fact that for episode 2 there was 40 submitted scripts shows there's huge variety, and a lot of budding playwrights and the like in the Lost community. Check em out, and maybe think of your own stuff - I wrote one for episode 1 and really enjoyed the experience (though made a rather cataclysmic canon blunder, one which I shall never live down - thank god its an anonymous ballot....).

Finally, all that remains is to discuss the latest tweak to the wiki - nice new headers for the Main homepage and Community Portal, inspired by our Portuguese and French counterparts. Those guys know how to code I must say - let us know what you think about the new thumb designs and headers - not too shabby huh. Also please light us up if its causing your browser to bug out.

Well that's it for now guys, take care and I hope ya'll enjoying the summertime, the living ain't easy without Lost, but stick with Lostpedia and you'll get through it lol. Oh and by the way, hope you like today's Lostbook design on the wiki ;-)

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO ONE AND ALL!!!!

The Hugo Cup reaches its climax

The Hugo Cup has now posted its final five nominations. For those who don't know, the Hugo Cup is essentially an annual award given to a Lost site in recognition of the service they provide to fans worldwide. Unlike last year, however, the final decision this time is down to you, the fan, to vote for which website you think is the most valuable Lost resource.

The nominees include big contenders like Lost-media (one of the most visited Lost sites around), and TheTailSection (often gaining exclusive interviews)

With some of the most popular Lost sites around on the list, it should be a very close contest!
