Did anyone else notice that the growth of the dog seems wrong? Jin gets the puppy when he goes to "deliver the message" the first time... then the next day he gets all bloody, and the puppy is no longer puppy sized. Is that just me?

I just had a realization about Jin... he is like the only character on the island with a dad that didn't abandon him or abuse him. in fact his dad is like the nicest man and so adorable. its funny cause with jin its his mom who is the traitor and jin is the one who abandons his father, not the other way around.
Maybe because of this he will be able to break the cycle with ji yeon and be a good father. Maybe that is why he was chosen by jacob and gets to survive everything.

I agree with everyone who has said that the first season is comparatively boring. Sure the themes are introduced, but themes in themselves arn't interesting; it's how these themes create a story. I think the season is valuable and was alright to watch initially, but not much happens in the bigger picture, and thus there is nothing to link with what will happen in season six... makes for some quite uninteresting recapping. And no blame is pointed for this,

Don't have much to comment on with this recap. I was never much a fan of sun and Jin's storyline. But that prob why I'm what some anon's call a toolbag. Since everyone else is talking bout format why not join in.

At the risk of being pulled into a spitting match with some person who can't even post a handle...No wait...nevermind... Brian, thanks for keeping everything elequent as always. Sam keep up the faith, I know it's extremely harrowing to put up orginal work. I hope non of my comment have come across as offensive or mean to you at all.
I do not have time to rewatch all of theepisodes of lost over so YES I do have a different idea of what I want out of a rewatch review. Any comments made about post thus far have been with that 1 major fact in mind. I don't think you ever got this idea but I'll clairify it for everyone else who seems to be confused. If I didn't like this rewatch, I would comment on it at all.
Like I said earlier I never like the sun/jin story much and it doesn't seem like there's much posting along that thread anyways, I'm just going to post an off topic idea.

S5 is titled "destany calls" yes most of the content used is scientific (Way to go Faraday).
Season 6 seems like it's going to have a extremely heavy Mytical (Egyptian?) influence in it. What was with the oxymoron season title and content and is there anything we can possibly gleam from the next season with this info.

Hope this post is more CONTSTRUCTIVE, unlike that POS 2 page post I put up relating to egypt in 1x16

Is it just me or is Jin far more relatable in hindsight of Sun's lack of marrital tendencies? I mean, the first few times that i saw the first few seasons I was concerned about Jin's behaviour, but now i definitely prefer him over Sun. She is worse. Far worse.

I wish it was HER caught in the freighter explosion. But that she hadn;t survived. And her screaming in that finale: "JIIIINNN!!! JIIIIIIIINNNNN!!!" Aaaargh!

Sam, good job here. Not every episode produces a lot of "aha" moments. Good catch about Locke's line regarding everyone having new life on the island.

I will disagree with other commentators about the first season: the show has always worked on many different levels and there are a number of things in this season (though not in this particular episode) that point forward to major themes in the series. As for themes that are still ongoing: black vs. white (or good vs. evil), fate vs. free will (or science vs. faith), parents and children, the magical qualities of the island, saviors (both Jack and Locke are connected to "saving"). There are even hints of Christian and Egyptian themes, which I believe will be big in the last season. Christian themes: Christian Shepherd (just the name is pretty obvious), episodes titled "Numbers" and "Exodus", Rose praying the Lord's Prayer, Christian's empty tomb, referring to the skeletons as Adam and Eve, talk of people saving (the whole savior theme), and even the title of the series ("For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost" - Luke 19:10 - not to mention the lost sheep and the lost coin and the prodigal son). The Egyptian themes aren't very clear, but there's a hint in Walt's comment about how he should be learning about the birds of Egypt in school (in "Special") and the bird screaming Hurley's name twice in "Exodus, Part II". Remember that Hurley is drawing that same bird in Santa Rosa in the fifth season, and it looks like depictions of the Egyptian god, Horus.

And this season raises questions that still haven't been answered fully: what is the smoke monster? What are the magical qualities of the island? What is Locke's supernatural/spiritual connection to the island? Who are Adam and Eve? What role does destiny/fate have to with the arrival of the survivors of Oceanic 815? What is the story behind the Black Rock and how did it end up in the middle of the island?

Of course, we couldn't know about the Dharma Initiative or Jacob, much less his nemesis, the first time around. We couldn't imagine Ben or Widmore or Desmond... Still, I think it's clear the writers knew the end of the show from the beginning and were setting up important elements of the final season. Could they have known all the details? No, but they knew where this adventure was headed.

Still, it's been fun seeing what connections other people have made. I usually see something different that way.

I like these recaps too. People should just relax with the angry comments about your blogs. In the big picture, this IS just character development. It's essential to the story and when it was first happening, was riveting. (IE: the first HOUR of the three hour 'DEER HUNTER')
I started my own rewatch around the same time, but I'm already on episode 4 season 3!!! NOW we are seeing major bits and pieces. Non of which i will bring up now, but all i can say to the 'haters' is, just be patient. The rewatch is going to get very interesting later on in the summer.

Mostly we got good background on the characters and the finale of that season was awesome. We didn't meet Ben until the second season right?

Jin starts working for Mr. Paik to marry Sun. The blackmail by the prostitute mother did not occur until after they are married. I think the Mother shows Sun a paper with the wedding photos.

It's funny how Jin was planning on starting over in America with Sun. Perhaps if he would have told her in Sidney, they could have found a way to lose Mr. Pike's spy. Maybe take anotehr flight. Then they would not have gotten all their issues out on the island though.

I think the flak over the rewatch was unavoidable, because really the essence of it is to re-watch for yourself, as a group, and then talk about it and MAYBE gleam a tidbit of knowledge.

At best, it's mostly "ahh, there's some foreshadowing we mist" but there are some things I noticed on my own re-watch.. the first potential item probably worth discussing or mentioning didn't even show up until Season 2X9 "What Kate Did" for me.. and that was watched in the weeks leading up to the S5 finale.. I thought a certain story told might show some relevance, but I'd have to re-watch yet again to remember what I was on to.

I think if people settle down and just watch it again for the memories and the refreshers, eventually the good stuff will come, but probably not. As Damon said, we won't even really be able to guess at the true end game until the premiere of Season 6 Episode 1.
