Dharma, finally, wants us
Well it was a day late for most time zones, but the dharmawantsyou.com site finally launched for all us fans to take their test. There has been an immense about of clues and new information (as is typical with a big ARG advancement), so I'll try and summarize everything in a concise way. I think its prudent first off to take out the pre-launch email which anyone who signed up to the Octagon Global Recruiting newsletters should have by now. If not, see a webpage version of it here. The email is mostly generic, but there are two things of interest in the site's source code. The first is "banks claw", which thanks to DarkUFO and WickedSlip for figuring out that this is an anagram of black swan (which could tie in with the origami swan on those Comic-Con flyers, and a general DHARMA reference). Furthermore, there's another source code item, which is a URL link (written in DOUBLEU... form, just to be irritating). This actually links to the bluetooth video from Comic Con on YouTube in high quality, courtesy of uploader RuckusGuy
There's a couple of language lines in there, both French and German. The best translations I've seen are, for the French, "à voyager à grande vitesse sur de longues distances" meaning "to travel far away at high-speed" and "... d'obligation sociale en priorité sur la sécurité personnelle" meaning "of social obligation in priority on personal safety". Note this will tie in with Icelandic translations which I'll mention in a few. As for the German, ToastPsycho on the YouTube comments section had: "...doch dabei Schwankungen im Raum-Zeit-Kontinuum..." meaning "...but thereby variations in the spacetime continuum..."Let us know if you've got conflicting translations.
And so finally that's all the pre-site stuff sorted - but of course the site itself had interesting tidbits. Most of it is just information with no clues - such as that once completing the test we find that more tests will be coming over the next few weeks - which are apparently "real" tests as there's actually a leaderboard to boot! I can already foresee the competition and indeed the cheating (by checking what the answers are before you do it) that will emerge... so no offense TPTB, but I'm already taking the scoreboard thing with a pinch of salt. It is interesting though that the format appears similar to Find 815 in that the updates are gonna be quite explicit (and indeed its the same production company behind) - so not perhaps will it be on the same scale as the Lost Experience (which I had kind of anticipated, as I heard TPTB had trouble with the sponsorship to make something like TLE again). Anyway, I digress.
The test itself is pretty structured, no Jupiter category choices like at Comic-Con. In the interest of being concise, if you want a complete Q&A list, see here. The most interesting thing in the course of the test was some audio, and I believe Lostpedia users were amongst the first to realize that it was actually Icelandic (I do love a global community, my money was on Danish though à la Hanso). So here is the full translation of that audio:
Þeir sem koma að dharmaverkefninu munu þurfa ferðast yfir hafið um langan veg á umtalsverðum hraða. Vinnan mun fela í sér útiveru og líkamlegt athæfi. Þú munt jafnvel einnig geta upplifað [óstöðleika á tímanum á samfylgdinni]. Vonandi ert þú sem og margir sem finnst vinnan mikilvægari en persónulegt öryggi þitt.
Those who come to the Dharma Initiative must be transported a long way across the sea at a considerable speed. Work will include being outdoors and physical labour. You may also experience some instability of time along the way. Hopefully you, like many others, feel that your social duty is more important than your personal safety.
Very interesting, can we take this information about time as canon though is the question - I don't see why not, as its almost certain that the writers did have a hand in this ARG. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, and also if RuckusGuy makes any more hacks. One final possible clue is that after taking the test, you have to enter some personals on the site, but the DOB is oddly set at July 17th, 1978 - which is 30 years before now, as in around the time of that DHARMA booth video from Comic-Con, which featured Pierre CHANG for the record not Cheng (we got that confirmation from the man himself, François Chau).
So, finally, that is everything that has happened in the last 24 hours in the world of the Lost ARG. Did you pass the test?

Awesome!
I'm already loving this ARG!
Bring it on Dharma!
Did anyone not pass?
Man, I want to know how to see that video on the site, not that lame RuckusGuy version(I mean video, not him, but you saw him to.)
Is anybody else having trouble registering? I can't pull it off, either a- there are too many people on the site at once or b- my comp is too slow.
Yes, I went thru the test, passed, entered my info and then it wouldn't stop "loading", I tried a few times and once it gave me an error but thats it. Did anyone get beyond that point?
I got past that, but I did it early in the morning when there wasn't much traffic
Loading.......
The website crashed, I am guessing due to too many people. I was on it at around 12:30 when it happened.
Been loading for almost an hour now...*sigh*
I registered successfully at 3:20PM Eastern time. After an initial error indicating the site was too busy, I got through. I too experienced the long loading time, but it eventually succeeded in loading an audio "thank you" message (took about 5 mins).
Namaste
i went through fine and fast
no long loads just like 10 secounds
This might be a little theory that probably someone else may have already thought of but i'm giving it a shot.
I too thought it odd that the DOB was already preset to '78 and i thought to myself "wouldn't it be interesting if this was the date of the Purge....?"
i don't know what do yall think?
anyone else having trouble this afternoon on the website? Slow loading. I am on a newer mac running OS 10.4 with firefox 3
@Lostfan8980
Since the orientation films are (c) 1980 and Chang supposedly died during the Purge I don't think that that's the case.
- The purge happened on 12th of December 1992 according to the Lostpedia article. -
I think the date may be related to the 'Dharma Booth Video' seeing as Dr. Chang mentions in it that we would receive that video "roughly 30 years from now" and that date is "roughly" 30 years ago.
I haven't taken the test. I guess I better sign up, but it occurs to me the Jupiter questions at Comic Con may have been a tribute to "Watchmen," since the Silk Spectre's Polish surname was anglicized to "Jupiter" in that Alan Moore-Dave Gibbons graphic novel.
Just a slight modification of the French translations: "travelling great distances at high speed" and "debt to society/obligations to society (take) priority over your own safety".
We haven't been able to get onto the site yet unfortunately.
Sherylym's translation makes a lot of sense. The "greater good" philosophy: "debt to society/obligations to society (take) priority over your own safety" is very Benjamin Linus, very Dharma.
it was loading for forever and i just clicked on login and it let me login
Anybody else think that there is something funny going on with the logo. I'm trying to figure out what it could read. Hanso, maybe? That "s" would be a little sketchy.
I think the logo says "Hanouiino" or something like that.
OK. When I passed the exam the first time, it did not give me a card number, in the registration screen, so I could not log in.
The second time, I was never registered, it never passed loading, but it gave me a card number.
I tried logging in today and I could. Try login, even if you never got a confirmation message.
Hey, I just added up the numbers in my card number and it equalled 46. Anyone else with similar results?
I just added up the numbers in my Card Number from the Dharma site. They equalled 46. Anyone else have a similar result?
Mine equal 47, don't think it's anything special.
Some words flash at the end of the video right before it shows the picture of the child in bed with the wolf. It says, "Who is your constant?"
There is a frame in the video between showing the word "Ingenuity" and the question "What would you sacrifice to stay alive?" when there is a blend between the two. In that blend frame, you see these letters:
Ing at wo ce
* "Ing" comes from "Ingenuity"
* "at" comes from "What"
* "wo" comes from "would"
* "ce" comes from "sacrifice"
Does anyone think this means anything? Could it be an anagram?
* Two in cage
* Ocean twig
Or, without "Ing," which may or may not be intended to be together with the other letters:
* Eat cow
* Ace, two
Can't seem to get past the loading screen. Also got a lot of errors stating 'too many connections', so it seems to be real busy.
Has anyone tried setting their computer's clock/calendar back to July of '78 and going through it?
Just a thought.
The date for the DuaneIsInsane blog post saying Dan is in danger is 1978 as well. Coincidence? I think not. Damn Lost ARGs freak me all the way out. I keep expecting to see taller ghost Walt standing behind me with a knife or something.
I passed the test. :)
Hey, I need some help. I clicked the dharmawantsyou.com link in my email and went to the website, passed the test, then filled out the form. But when it keeps telling me my email has already been registered. So I made a brand new email account and tried to use that and it still says it has already been registered, which is impossible. Can anyone help?
If you watch the Dharma Booth Video, he says it is roughly 30 years in the past. And on lostpedia it says that the video was recorded roughly on the July 14th 1978. Wasn't this the D.O.B. that automatically comes up when registering on DharmaWantsYou.com?
The same thing's happening to me April. Is it too late to register already?
I just don't think anyone could not pass.
I think everybody is getting accepted at least at this point of the game.. perhaps theyll be rejecting people in future stages of the ARG.
Watching the disassembling and reassembling DHARMA Initiative logo during the intro and seques again, it almost seems as if two of the modified trigrams "adhere" to each other more than others do. I'm not sure if it is intentional or not on the part of the ARG producers, but two of the trigrams seem to form the word "HU," as in the Arabic-Ismalic phrase, "Allah Hu," meaning, "God, Just He!" But, then again, it is seen from the back and forms the word "UH." It might only be a coincidence or an unintended synchronicity. Any thoughts from anyone else?
Interesting. The reference to "grande vitesse" was interesting to me as a resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Calder that is the icon of our fair city is called La Grande Vitesse. No real connection, I'm sure, but kind of cool anyway.
I wonder if there is EVER going to be an update on that site...
What are they waiting for, 8/15?
I think sherylm's translation is better than the one that appears in the blog post ("sur" meaning "on (top of)" or "over"), though I was confused as to whether the penultimate word was an adjective ("personnelle", i.e. personal security) or a masculine noun ("personnel", i.e. security people). :-)
Hi, Karim, security people in French is "personnel de sécurité" and the spelling and word order of "personnelle" means that it can only be an adjective in this sentence.
Hopefully soon the ARG will be up and running again so we can find new clues and mysteries ;-)
